After 1 November, those who are fully vaccinated, or who have recently had Covid-19 can return to work or school without being tested, reports the Public Health Agency of Sweden (“Folkhälsomyndigheten”). From 1 November, those fully vaccinated and those who have recently had Covid-19, do not need tests for Covid-19 if they get respiratory symptoms or fever. Like before, small children who have not yet started school, must not be tested. This following the Public Health Agency of Sweden (“Folkhälsomyndigheten”).
If you experience respiratory symptoms
Stay at home if you have symptoms that could be signs of a respiratory tract infection. These may include a runny nose, sore throat, fever, cough or feeling unwell. The recommendation to stay at home applies to everyone, including those who are vaccinated and regardless of age.
People who are vaccinated against Covid-19If you are vaccinated or have had Covid-19 in the past six months, the following applies:
- You can return to work, school and leisure activities if you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours and feel healthy.
- As a rule, you do not need to get tested for Covid-19. Read more about which groups are exceptions in the list below.
Vaccinated people who need to get testedIf you are in any of the following groups, you should get tested if you develop symptoms of Covid-19, even if you are vaccinated or have had the virus in the past six months:
- have developed symptoms within 14 days of travel to a country outside the Nordic region
- live in a residential care home for the elderly (SÄBO) or receive home care services
- elderly care recipients in LSS homes
- need care or treatment
- feels healthy, personnel working in healthcare, SÄBO, home care or LSS housing
- have been contacted by contact tracing services.
People who are not vaccinated against Covid-19If you are not vaccinated against Covid-19, you should take extra precautions to protect yourself and others from being infected. The following applies to those who are unvaccinated and develop symptoms of respiratory tract infection:
- Stay at home if you have symptoms of a respiratory tract infection. Stay alert to new symptoms.
- Get tested. Adults and children in preschool class (year 0) who are not vaccinated are recommended to get tested for Covid-19.
- Stay at home and avoid close contacts while waiting to get tested and test results.
- If you have not been tested, you should behave as if you have the disease and stay at home for seven days.
If you are not vaccinated, you can go back to school, work and leisure activities again when you have tested negative for Covid-19, been fever-free for at least 24 hours and feel healthy.
Preschool-aged children with symptomsThe Public Health Agency of Sweden does not recommend testing preschool-aged children if they have symptoms of Covid-19. In case of symptoms, a child needs to stay at home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours and feel healthy. As long as the child has been fever-free for 24 hours and feels healthy, they can return to school even if they still have some respiratory symptoms.
Infection without symptomsCovid-19 can spread from people with or without symptoms.
If Covid-19 is confirmed- If you have tested positive for Covid-19, you must stay at home and follow the rules of conduct you have received from healthcare services.
- You can go back to preschool, school, work and leisure activities if you have stayed at home for at least seven days from when the symptoms began and been fever-free for at least two days and feel healthy, even if you still have some respiratory symptoms such as a cough or runny nose.
- If you have had a test but do not have symptoms, the seven days that you have to stay at home are counted from the day the test was taken.
- If you have taken your own antigen test that shows that you have Covid-19, you should stay at home, regardless of whether you have symptoms or not. You can also book a test at 1177.se to confirm that you have Covid-19.
- Call 1177 for medical advice and if you need care and treatment for your symptoms. In the event of life-threatening symptoms, call 112.
According to the Communicable Diseases Act ("Smittskyddslagen"), Covid-19 is a danger to public health and society. You are therefore obliged to follow the rules of conduct you have received from healthcare services in order to prevent the spread of infection.
